The SZO Internal Medicine Clinic has around 80 beds and, with the exception of the oncology day clinic and palliative care unit, is located almost exclusively at the Visp site. Every year, around 3,600 inpatients and 38,000 outpatients and day patients are treated there.

Internal medicine focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the internal organs, from gastroenterology to pulmonology and neurology, including oncology and rheumatology. The department provides the basis for a comprehensive understanding and effective treatment of diseases, from the complex cardiovascular system to the finer details of the gastrointestinal tract.
