Paediatric Department Sion Hospital

The paediatrics department of the Valais Hospital for French-speaking Valais is located in Sion. Within the Sion Hospital, paediatrics and paediatric surgery work very closely together: the ‘Children's Centre’. 

The general paediatrics department has the following responsibilities:

  • to care for children from birth to the age of 16
  • to collaborate with and provide postgraduate training for paediatricians
  • to collaborate with specialists from university hospitals.

The CHVR paediatrics department treats all childhood illnesses and accidents from birth to adolescence. It is organised into several sectors and offers various consultations and specialised programmes in addition to patient care.

The paediatrics department consists of four units.

Training and research

The paediatrics department at the Valais Romand Hospital Centre has received several FMH accreditations (category B, 3 years) for general paediatrics and advanced training in paediatric emergency medicine (category B, 6 months). These are in addition to the existing accreditation in neonatology (category B, also 6 months, with accreditation as a type 2b neonatal intensive care unit).

The association ‘Pinceaux magiques’ (Magic Brushes) offers silk painting activities to children suffering from chronic illnesses or who have to stay in hospital for long periods.

It is primarily a playful, relational and sometimes therapeutic form of support, but also a time for meeting, sharing, expressing oneself, being present and listening at regular intervals with the sick child and their parents.
