Orthopaedics

Orthopaedics is the surgical specialist field that deals with all degenerative or “wear and tear” diseases of the skeleton, as well as malformation or accident. This includes, amongst others, all articular degenerative pathologies, such as arthrosis of the hip, knee, shoulder, and ankle, all of which are also situations where the orthopaedic surgeon can offer the installation of prostheses.

The centre of competence in orthopaedics for the French-speaking Valais is located at the Hôpital de Martigny, which takes the majority of consultations and operations. An orthopaedic unit is also provided at Sion. For the Haut-Valais, the orthopaedic centre of competence is based in Brigue (Brig).
