Training and Specialist Training
The Orthopaedics / Traumatology Clinic employs a total of 14 junior doctors. These rotate as orthopaedic or surgical specialists in all departments at both sites. In Brig, these are the Orthopaedics Department, the Spinal Surgery Department and the Hand Surgery Department.
Of course, we also offer residency positions for non-surgical specialisations (external year).
At the Visp site, in addition to a rotation in traumatology, a rotation in the emergency ward is also planned. A rotation in intensive care medicine can also be planned.
In addition, various specialisations can be completed in our clinic after specialist training.
Specialist training
The Orthopaedics / Traumatology Clinic at the SZO is a training centre (WBS) B1 for specialists in orthopaedics and traumatology of the musculoskeletal system. This means a maximum of 4 years of recognition in training to become a specialist (including traumatology).
Head of the WBS FA Orthopaedics: Dr Andreas Ottersbach
1 year of the specific training to become a hand surgery specialist can be completed at the Orthopaedics / Traumatology Clinic.
Head of WBS Hand Surgery: Dr Erhard Markiefka, MD
In co-operation with the Clinic for General Surgery / Visceral Surgery, we offer 6-12 months of rotational training in traumatology for trainee specialists in surgery.
