Maternity ward of the Centre Hospitalier du Valais Romand (Sion) La famille au cœur de nos soins
In our department, we take care of the health and well-being of mothers, newborns, couples and families from pregnancy through to childbirth.
In 2023, our maternity unit welcomed 1,433 births.
In the maternity department, our missions are clearly defined:
- To place the mother, newborn baby, couple and family at the heart of our care and concerns during the perinatal period. We are committed to accompanying, listening to and supporting them to make this a warm and memorable time in their lives.
- Providing comprehensive, personalised care in a safe, warm and serene environment. We understand the importance of an environment that supports tranquillity and security. Our care is designed to meet the specific needs of each family, ensuring a positive and reassuring experience.
- Our aim is to respect your birth plan as much as possible, while guaranteeing everyone's safety. Our team is here to support your choices while ensuring that safety and medical care are maintained.
- Emphasise co-parenting and encourage the commitment of both parents. Encouraging co-parenting is essential to us. We encourage the active involvement of both parents from the outset and support a solid, balanced couple dynamic.
Our service
- Caring for pregnant women from pregnancy to childbirth, as well as during the post-partum period, including family support.
- Management of maternal and pregnancy-related pathologies to ensure optimal health for both mother and baby.
- Providing compassionate care during medical terminations of pregnancy, offering emotional and medical support tailored to your specific needs.
Our department is divided into three units: the antenatal unit, the delivery room and the post-partum unit.
- The antenatal unit
The antenatal unit welcomes and supports you in the event of pregnancy-related pathologies such as pre-eclampsia, gestational cholestasis or a threat of premature delivery, in the event of a therapeutic termination of pregnancy, at the onset of signs of labour, or if childbirth induction has been planned. - The delivery room
The delivery room will welcome and assist you from the start of your labour, where you will stay for up to two hours after a vaginal delivery and up to four hours after a caesarean section, as well as for emergency consultations from 20 weeks of amenorrhoea. - The post-partum unit
The post-partum unit welcomes you as soon as you have finished being monitored in the delivery room.
