Our structure

Our department is divided into three units: the antepartum unit, the birth room and the postpartum unit.

  • The antepartum unit welcomes and supports you in the following situations:

    • if you are suffering from a pregnancy-related condition such as pre-eclampsia, gestational cholestasis or a threat of premature delivery,
    • if a therapeutic termination of pregnancy has been decided,
    • if you begin to feel the first signs of labour,
    • if a provocation has been planned,

    ...
Our unit has six double rooms, each with its own shower room. A bathtub is available during the pre-labour phase.

Our teams of midwives and gynaecologists are on hand to welcome you and support you throughout your stay, every step of the way.

  • The Birth Room welcomes and assists you in the following situations:

    • If you are in labour (you will stay in this unit for up to two hours after a vaginal delivery and up to four hours after a caesarean section),
    • If you need an emergency consultation after 20 weeks' amenorrhoea.

We encourage the presence of a co-parent or companion of your choice in the birth room.

Our unit has two consultation rooms and five delivery rooms, two of which are equipped with a bath. Each delivery room is equipped with a delivery bed, allowing you to adopt the position that suits you best. There is also a separate shower room and bathroom for your comfort.

Three midwives are available around the clock to assist you and work closely with the medical and paramedical team.

Please note that babies can be admitted to the Sion hospital from 32 weeks of amenorrhoea, in the neonatology unit.

  • The post-partum unit welcomes you as soon as you have finished being monitored in the delivery room. Our team will guide you through the first steps in caring for your baby, while encouraging the participation of your co-parent and siblings during these precious moments. We can also provide you with personalised support in your choice of baby food.

The average length of stay after a vaginal delivery is three days, and five days after a caesarean section. However, we understand that every situation is unique, so our lengths of stay are flexible and can be adapted to best suit you and your baby's needs.

Our unit is equipped with ten double rooms and one single room, each with its own shower room. In addition, two bathrooms are available for changing and bathing babies, as well as a breastfeeding room.

We also have a nursery where paediatricians can carry out the necessary check-ups and examinations for your baby. Our interdisciplinary team of nurses and midwives is on hand in sufficient numbers to offer you personalised support at every stage. We work closely with the medical and paramedical team to ensure the best possible care for you and your newborn baby.
