Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy is the speciality which treats conditions affecting swallowing, speech, the voice, language and communication, whatever they are caused by, in children, adults, and elderly people.

At Valais Hospital, speech therapists provide services and cooperate with numerous departments (ENT and cervico-facial surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, palliative care, acute and intensive care, geriatrics, medicine, pneumology, cardiac surgery).

Establishing a preliminary assessment allows staff to evaluate the impairments that are observed and the abilities that the patient has retained, to determine their cause as far as is possible, to refine diagnosis and to issue a prognosis. Re-education is then organised if necessary.

In addition, speech therapists are also involved in the field of prevention (training and informing healthcare staff, health education) and of screening.
