Information for patients and families Outpatient cardiac rehabilitation

The outpatient cardiovascular rehabilitation centre offers a rehabilitation programme that meets the quality standards set by the Swiss Working Group for Cardiovascular Rehabilitation (G.S.R.C.). It opened its doors on 20 April 2009, following a joint effort by the CHVR Cardiology Department and the Clinique Romande de Réadaptation (CRR) to overhaul the existing outpatient cardiovascular rehabilitation programme. In July 2016, it welcomed its 1,000th patient.

Who is this programme for?

Anyone can benefit from cardiovascular rehabilitation at our centre if they meet one of the following criteria:

  • Coronary heart disease with or without a heart attack
  • Coronary bypass surgery or coronary angioplasty
  • Surgery on the heart or major blood vessels (heart valves, aortic prostheses)
  • Myocardial diseases with heart failure
  • Stroke without significant sequelae
  • Implantation of a defibrillator
  • Peripheral circulatory disorders
  • Multiple cardiovascular risk factors (diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, insufficient physical activity, smoking, stress, obesity) requiring cardiovascular preventive measures

When cardiac rehabilitation is necessary but the outpatient programme cannot be followed for social or health reasons, inpatient cardiac rehabilitation is available at the CHVR on the Sierre hospital site.
