Ambulance Company of the Valais Hospital

The Compagnie d'Ambulances de l'Hôpital du Valais provides all primary and secondary interventions in the Sierre, Martigny and Entremont regions. It currently employs over 80 staff.

The company was IAS (Interassociation de Sauvetage) certified for the first time in 2017. This quality approach has enabled us to meet the IAS requirement criteria, but also to offer optimal, high-quality care that is constantly being improved. Since then, IAS certification has been renewed every 4 years.

Every year, the department carries out over 7,000 urgent missions, around 1,500 transfers and over a hundred days of events.

Our missions

  • Urgent interventions are regulated by the 144 center, which questions the caller and decides whether an ambulance is required. If so, it forwards the intervention message to the nearest ambulance, which will take charge of the mission. The emergency ambulance team is made up of an ES-certified ambulance driver and an ambulance technician, or two certified ambulance drivers.

  • Transfers are procedures that take place between two hospital environments. The distribution of specialties across the different sites of the Valais Hospital leads to a high demand for transfers. These requests are made by the patient's location and forwarded to the hospital's transport management unit. The latter sorts the requests and forwards them to ambulances, hospital light medical vehicles or cabs, depending on the patient's needs and the availability of resources.
A transfer crew can be made up of one ambulance technician and one nurse, two ambulance technicians, one ambulance technician and one ambulance driver, two ambulance drivers or one ambulance driver and one nurse.

  • In addition to its emergency and transfer missions, the Valais Hospital ambulance company provides on-call medical services for events and demonstrations (Foire du Valais, Rallye, Fête de la châtaigne, etc.).
The composition of the event crew is similar to that of the emergency crew.
